A New Chapter in My Life

It’s time to move onto another chapter in my life and change things up a lot. I’ve spent the past twelve years and four months doing what I love with great people. When I walked into Rogers Television back in October 2005 to volunteer in the community, doing what I was passionate about, I never thought it would turn out to be such a huge part of my life.
I began orientation and training as a thirteen year old, but it wasn’t until my fourteenth birthday, November 12th, 2005, that I was allowed to sign up and help with OUA Hockey at the JLC. I operated the set camera with my sister. That was my first production with Rogers Television.
Fast forward twelve years and four months into the future. This past Friday evening. I was sitting in the mobile at Budweiser Gardens, running graphics for my last Rogers TV production, London Knights Hockey and The Wrap. It was certainly a tough evening for me. For something that I’d been doing my entire adult life, and I couldn’t do it anymore. I had volunteered with Rogers TV on about five hundred OHL Hockey games. Whether it be at the John Labatt Centre or Budweiser Gardens or even a road trip to another city. We as a crew had gone as far as Sault Ste. Marie to ensure fans back in London saw the Knights play in the playoffs.
But it wasn’t just OHL. I tried helping on everything I could, whether it be in the studio, on the mobile or ENG. If I had the time, I’d go to Rogers and volunteer. It’s not just because I thought I was doing good for the community, it’s because I was working with awesome people everyday.
My last studio show, #LdnOntTV, was on Thursday and what happened there cemented the fact that I was surrounded by incredible people. I was asked to sit in the host chair to block shots for the show. Seconds later I was encircled by staff and volunteers who presented me with a card, pizza and cake. None of this had to be done, but it was a step above and I am so grateful for it.
So why you ask am I leaving Rogers TV if I love it so much? I’ve accepted a job with CTV London. Although I really wish I didn’t have to leave the people and the familiarities of 800 York behind, a new chapter in a paying position in an industry I love is necessary for me to grow as an individual.
Thanks to everyone at Rogers TV for curating my passion for Television and allowing me to become who I am today.
